Black Lace and Tweed

Burberry tweed jacket, H&M lace shirt, Vintage shorts, Russell and Bromley shoes, NW3 Hobbs belt, Louis Vuitton Speedy bag

I love a good English outfit and there's nothing more British than a bit of tweed and lace, especially when you're throwing Burberry into the mix! Now, don't get the idea I wear designer labels often (alas, if only I did...) This Burberry jacket was 'borrowed' from my brother's wardrobe and he is yet to ask for it back - although after this post that may all change rather swiftly - and I have teamed it with my trusty Louis Vuitton speedy for a rather upmarket look, literally. What a terribly luxurious way to start the week. Until next time stay updated with me on Twitter and Pinterest.

P.S. I am currently involved in a competition with Look magazine, where I upload style photographs. I need to get as many 'likes' as possible and will be uploading frequent photos onto their website which, of course, I will be sharing with you all here on HSW. Please support me by clicking here and liking my photo! xx

The Classic Tee

Topshop tee and studded slippers, Asos belt, Vintage shorts

Having a simple tee (or ten) is must for any girl's wardrobe. It's the classic go to item on those "OMG I have absolutely nothing to wear in my jam packed wardrobe" days. Combined with denim bottoms and pumps or boots and you've got yourself a winning look every time. I'd recommend investing in the tee in a variety of colours and Topshop have a great selection, all available here. Happy shopping and be sure to follow HSW on Twitter and Pinterest.

Hallowe'en Feelin'

River Island jumper, Zara leather skirt and heels, Jack Wills hair bow, Asos flower ring, Vintage Dior earrings

I do enjoy a little festive dressing and I'm getting into the spirit of things fairly early this year. Halloween may still be nearly three weeks away but I'm already using it as outfit inspiration with this orange and black ensemble. I love the natural sixties feel to the whole look as it was quite unintended and seemed to happen quite organically but, hopefully, with successful results.

For me, Halloween is all about extravagance and is the one time of year where I would wear things that I never normally would. I think this has come through in my Halloween inspired outfit - who says you can't wear a winter jumper with a leather mini skirt and heels in the middle of the British autumn?!

Accessories

Earrings from Manchester Vintage Fair

I'm a big proponent of accessories; often they can bring your outfit to life and really make or break it. For me, I'm always interested in the small details that really make an outfit interesting. It's easy to put on a nice dress but it's much more impressive to use accessories to really make it your own. Here is a little collection of a few things I'm enjoying from my accessories collection at the moment. These shoes are a recent purchase and, although I wasn't too sure at first, I think they're quickly becoming my new favourite. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend, until next time catch up with me on Twitter and Pinterest.

New Discoveries

Zara shirt and bag, American Apparel jeans, Topshop shoes, Vintage scarf

Since buying my Louis Vuitton Speedy back in May the other bags in my closet have somewhat been lacking attention. I adore my Louis, although, difficulty in finding things in it is somewhat of an understatement. At which point I have re-discovered this beautiful, tan leather bag from Zara. The colour is perfect, the detail  perpetual and the size is amazing for girls like me who love to carry all those unnecessary items around. Variety is the spice of life and my sartorial thinking has never been more incongruous. Until next time catch up with me on Twitter and Pinterest.

Check Mate

Vintage shirt and shorts, H&M bandeau, Zara shoes

I'm off on my last summer holiday in a few days (very excited!) so I've been running around doing a few last minute errands. Whilst I don't particularly advocate comfort as an equal footing to style, it is something I take in to consideration, especially when I have so much to do. This check shirt has become my new best friend of late, and the easy nature of these denim shorts is something I've become accustom to. I'll be back from my holiday in a couple of weeks so be sure to check back then but, until then, bon voyage!

Casual

 Vintage shirt, Zara skirt

I have to confess, this outfit is a little warm for today; leather and sunshine aren't always a great combination, however, I love wearing such a dressed-up, statement skirt and juxtaposing it with a check shirt, the ultimate laid back item. By doing this it makes your wardrobe so much more versatile and allows each piece to be much more wearable. This skirt has been sitting in my closet for months and, having only been worn once, I decided I needed to find ways in which I could incorporate it into some day attire.
Have a look in your wardrobe and see which evening pieces you can dress down and make day appropriate. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the results! Until next time catch up with me on Twitter and Pinterest.

Check Mate

Vintage shirt, Ark jumper, Topshop jeans, Converse

I've been wanting to wear this little ensemble for a while now and, seeing as the sun is not playing nice, I decided that I would showcase my new jumper underneath a sky of clouds today. It's lovely and cosy and perfect for keeping off the summer chill.

Usually my style is fairly girly and feminine, but every once in a while it's nice to experiment with a different look. I love the geeky androgyny to this outfit and the contrasting textures to the jumper and shirt. It's also unusual for me to wear dark under light but, with the light blue of the check peeking through, it uplifts the ensemble just enough to work. Soft layers are perfect for this time of year and jumpers in lighter hues will instantly give your wardrobe more of a summer vibe.

Umbrella Weather

Ralph Lauren shirt, Barbour jacket, Vintage Levi's, Zara belt, Topshop loafers

I love my vintage Levi's; they're actually way too big for me now and so I really should invest in a new pair. Somehow I can't quite manage it though as I've grown so fond of this pair. They're so easy and breezy and great for running around the city in. I've juxtaposed my shorts with a country bumpkin quilted Barbour jacket. I've had it for years now but as my style evolves it appears less and less. I'll never get rid of it though, it's definitely a forever piece and I love to bring it out every now and then for nostalgic reasons. It's also pretty good protection against the Mancunian rain!

Jubilee

Zara leather jacket and belt, Asos tee, Vintage Levi's, Topshop shoes, Louis Vuitton bag

I love a bit of thematic dressing and when better to be patriotic than the Jubilee weekend? I don't really wear red, ever, so I've not managed to incorporate that into my outfit but I've got two out of the three colours so I'm hoping that will be enough!

I love the fluid movement of my American Apparel cape and the silhouette sits perfectly against my floral dress. Monday's outfit was a bit edgier so today I've opted for something a bit more girly and feminine. I hope everyone has enjoyed the Jubilee weekend, until next time see you on Twitter and Pinterest.

Summer Stripes

Topshop top and sandals, American Apparel jeans, Louis Vuitton bag, GoGo Philip necklace

It's my best friend's 21st birthday tomorrow so it's been a fairly crazy 18 hours. Last night we went for dinner and drinks at which I showcased my new bow-back striped vest. I love stripes anyway, but my love for them seems to grow to new levels when the sun comes out. They're so chic yet so easy, even now I find it difficult to get my head around how something so simple can always look so right. I added my favourite GoGo philip gold necklace, which I showcased here; I'm really into clashing silver and gold at the moment, which I know a lot of people are quite adverse to, but my overly relaxed summer nature has started to grow on the idea so I teamed it with silver sandals and bracelet.

This morning has been ridiculous and I've been rushing around like a mad lunatic in the sweltering heat running last minute birthday errands. I also had to pick up the birthday cake and get it from shop to home without dropping it (anyone who knows my clumsy nature would appreciate the challenge it was). My housemate and I found a moment of calm in the earlier hours of this morning to take a few snaps of today's striped outfit; a little more relaxed than last night and breezy enough to stay at a reasonably bearable temperature. I decided to use my Canon DSLR today; I think I've been a bit lazy of late using my little Nikon 'snapshot' camera because the Canon is quite cumbersome but, really, it captures the light and movement so well that I know I need to start bringing it out more often.

The Same, Again

Vintage slip, Kurt Geiger boots, Urban Outfitters belt, Asos clutch, Topshop rings

The vintage slip made another appearance last night; it's funny how something can sit in your wardrobe, untouched for so long, before you realise what a versatile piece it can be. I think my brain has shut off for the day so, just for today, hopefully the pictures will be enough.

The LBD

Zara dress, Kurt Geiger shoes, Vintage clutch, Topshop rings, GoGo Philip necklace, DKNY watch, Space N.K. and Barry.M nail polish

I've always loved a classic look so last night, for my graduation ball, I chose a simple but elegant LBD (little black dress). I've actually had this Zara one sitting in my wardrobe for quite some time, so it was nice to be able to give it an outing. I love the bow detailing which really uplifts the dress and gives this timeless classic a bit of flair.

Accessories are so key when you're going to a ball and I adore wearing lots of gold. The necklace and rings are new additions to my collection, bought especially for the occasion, and I love the Egyptian feel to the necklace. These beautiful Kurt Geiger shoes are my all time favourites; they look and feel so extravagant and add just the right amount of sparkle to any special event.

Vintage Slip

Vintage Slip, Zara Jacket, H&M belt, Kurt Geiger boots

I picked this slip up about a year ago at a vintage fair for a mere £3... It was a horrifying length when I purchased it but, with a little help from my housemate's mother, (my sewing skills are well below parr for a fashion student) it's now of a length that combines that fabulously retro seductiveness whilst still remaining timeless. It's so delicate and perfect for these breezy spring days. I've teamed it with a leather jacket to juxtapose the dress with something heavier and grungier and added a boho vibe with suede ankle booties. Pretty versatile I'd say.
Until next time see you on Twitter and Pinterest.

White Shirt

Zara blouse and trench, Topshop jeans and shoes, Butler and Wilson headband, Vintage scarf, Asos ring

As you know I've been in London this weekend; packing has never been a strength of mine, at least not packing lightly anyway. I always take way too much stuff and this time was no exception - I took five pairs of shoes (despite only being there for four days and only wearing two of them!). I did manage to be more sensible with my clothes packing, however. I decided to keep things easy and breezy this weekend and nothing is more easy chic than a simple white shirt and a pair of skinny jeans. I love this look and it's a winner every single time. It also allowed me the opportunity to wear my new Asos boyfriend shirt which I love - remember, always balance out an oversized top with something tapered on bottom.

When I was out last weekend I noticed a girl with a lovely blue, silk square scarf and it reminded me of this great vintage one I have. It hasn't seen the light of day for a very long time but I'm going to make a conscious effort to wear it more often as it's got a beautiful print. Key accessories, such as this scarf, an oversized ring, statement necklace or jewelled headband are great standout items that can give your outfit a little more depth and really allow you to stand out from the crowd. Hope everyone had a great weekend x
